Heaven on Earth with an Onion Slice.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

What a great day at Our Kids Soup Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at LP Stadium. The crowds came in the door at 11:00 am and did not let up until 1:15pm. Our soup selection this year was “Cheeseburger in Paradise”. If you know the song, Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet, you know what’s in the soup.

“I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Well, good god Almighty which way do I steer”

Our soup was a beer-cheese soup with diced onions and Land Shark beer inside it. We filled each portion cup with soup, tomatoes, pickles, diced hamburger patties, lettuce, and potato stix. Dishing out the soup this year was Jason Gooch, sous chef at J & M Catering, Pam Kahre, Nathan Kahre, and Rick Kahre, Owner of J & M. Seeming to be the talk of the soup selections, we did notice that we gave out several second and third portions to a lot of people. We would estimate that we served over 800 portions of the soup. And at the awards ceremony it was announced that we had received 5th place in the Peoples Choice category. There were over 50 restaurants represented, so we think 5th place is a respectable finish for our newly created soup this year. We look forward to next years competition. Maybe we will do a remix ;)

Our Kids Soup Sunday

Monday, January 25th, 2010

It’s Soup Sunday time again. The 17th annual Our Kids Soup Sunday Competition is on February 28, 2010, our 7th consecutive year! Last year’s competition brought in 1,700 guests and $55,000 were raised. All proceeds benefit Our Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides evaluations and crisis counseling for children and families where there are concerns of child sexual abuse. Leftover soups from the competition are donated to Second Harvest. Aside from the 50 soups, stews, and broths from various restuarants, there will be a balloon artist, clowns, a magician, a caricaturist, massage artists, and a silent auction. Bring the whole family!

Herbs organically grown

Fresh Herbs

Fresh Herbs

The chefs at J&M Catering have been busy planting an organic garden. We are doing our part in the “slow food” movement, which is the movement towards using local produce and food products. We are also trying our best to reduce our carbon footprint by reducing the shipment of produce from California, Mexico, and other locales. We have planted many herbs, including basil, rosemary, marjoram, sage, oregano, and parsley. Along with the herbs, we have planted a variety of heirloom tomatoes and hot pepper plants. Stay tuned for updates on the garden’s progress!

Nashville Rescue Mission
Catering events don’t always go as planned and often times there can be large quantities of unused food remaining. Your extra food will not go to waste. J&M Catering has been working with the Nashville Rescue Mission for 16 years. At our discretion, we repackage unused portions of food leftover from large catering events and deliver them to the Nashville Rescue Mission.
